American Honda seeks STEM applications

The American Honda Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the American Honda Motor Company, is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations and schools for programs that support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Environmental projects, job training, and literacy programs also will be considered.

Grants of up to $75,000 will be awarded to 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations, public school districts, and private/public elementary and secondary schools listed by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics.

Amount: $75,000

Date due: The foundation accepts applications on a quarterly basis. Deadlines for the 2013 grantmaking cycle are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.

Lawrence Foundations supports Education, Environment

The Lawrence Foundation awards grants in support of the environment, education, human services, disaster relief, and other causes.  The foundation awards both program and operating grants with no geographic restrictions.

Arts, Culture & Design in Schools

Arts, Culture & Design in Schools, a charitable initiative of national retailerTarget, is accepting applications from schools and nonprofit organizations for programs that bring arts and cultural experiences directly to K-12 students.

The company awards grants of $2,000 for programs that enhance the classroom curricula by bringing the arts and cultural experiences to schools via in-school performances, artist-in-residency programs, workshops, and so on. Programs must take place between September 2013 and August 2014.

Amount: $2,000

Promoting Psychology in Secondary Schools

The American Psychological Foundation provides financial support for innovative research and programs that enhance the power of psychology to elevate the human condition and advance human potential. APF's Pre-College Psychology Grant program provides financial support for efforts aimed at improving the quality of education in psychological science and its application in secondary schools for talented students.

The program awards grants of up to $20,000 to projects that improve the quality of high school education in psychology and/or encourage talented high school students to pursue careers in psychology. Priority is given to projects that reinforce the discipline of psychology as a science in secondary school curricula; expand the profile of psychology as a science among talented high school students; convey to high school students that psychological science is a tool to improve society; and teach students about career options that apply psychology outside of an academic setting. Proposals must focus on supporting the education of talented high school students.

Amount: $20,000

RGK Foundation seeks education, health and community oriented requests

The Austin-based RGK Foundation is inviting proposals in the broad areas of education, community, and health and medicine.

The foundation's primary interests include formal K-12 education (particularly math, science, and reading), teacher development, literacy, and higher education. The foundation's community grants support a broad range of human services, community improvement, abuse prevention, and youth development programs. The foundation's current interests in health and medicine include programs that promote the health and well-being of children, programs that promote access to health services, and foundation-initiated programs focusing on ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Personnel Preparation in Special Education and Early Childhood

The U.S. Department of Education seeks proposals for its Personnel Development to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities grant competition.

The purposes of this program are to (1) help address State-identified needs for highly qualified personnel in special education, related services, early intervention, and regular education to work with children, including infants and toddlers, with disabilities; and (2) ensure that those personnel have the necessary skills and knowledge, derived from practices that have been determined through scientifically based research and experience, to be successful in serving those children.

Amount: $250,000/year
